Richard Karmel

Partner, Mazars UK – Global head of Business and Human Rights

Richard Karmel is responsible for the Mazars’ award winning business and human rights reporting line.

He has operated as a Partner since 1998 and is a specialist in cross-border transactions and has provided invaluable advice for both overseas companies investing in the UK and companies investing in Europe.

Background

Richard qualified in 1992 as a Chartered Accountant with a large firm of accountants, where he was seconded to the Paris office for two years. As a result, he became conversant with French accountancy, tax and company law practices, which gave him a valuable European perspective.

Richard has particular expertise of companies in the mining and oil and gas sectors and has clients with operations throughout Africa, Asia and America.

Richard is currently a key member of the project team for the Reporting and Assurance Framework Initiative which has designed a Reporting Framework that is a guide for companies on what good reporting of their human rights perfomance looks like. They are also in the process of designing an Assurance Framework to act as a guide for assurance professionals. This project is officially supported by the United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights.
